Visiting orphanages

Pack for a Purpose does not condone visiting orphanages, as this can often lead to negative impacts on children. The accommodation or tour company working with the orphanage will deliver the supplies in a coordinated and respectful way so that the children can benefit from them. Your generosity is not diminished because you do not interact with the children.

Project Description

Nakawa Community Academy is located approximately 70kms from Livingstone, set up by a couple from the same village. Nakawa provides meals and education for 110 children – and growing! The Academy also provides mentorship to children for further education, scholarship opportunities for volunteer teachers and vocational training to adults within the community. As a sustainable food initiative, the couple have created a large vegetable garden, a tree nursery, a fruit orchard to feed the schoolchildren. The Arts & Crafts Centre and a small shop help finance the various initiatives. Visitors may opt to visit Nakawa Community Academy as a guest of Chundukwa River Lodge and donate directly to the school.
